Thank you for making our wish come true - says Joan
2010 Annual Supporters' Reception hears Founder's message
Almost 100 guests gathered in the Board Room of Westminster University on Regent Street, London recently to mark both the 35th anniversary of the charity and yet another successful year of helping families access a break.
One of the highlights of the afternoon was the screening of a short film marking the charity's 35th anniversary. Joan Laurance, who founded the charity in 1975 with her late husband Patrick Laurance, is featured in the film describing how the charity came about and some of its early highpoints.
Speaking afterwards, Joan, 89, said she wanted to thank all the charity's supporters for "making Pat's and my wish come true". From the humble beginnings in 1975 when some 15 families were helped to today when some 2,000 families are expected to enjoy the benefits of a holiday this year, the charity had grown beyond what they had ever dreamed was possible.
She said, "The charity has helped so many people and given families such immense hope and buckets full of happy memories, but this has only been because of the incredible support over the years from so many lovely people."
