A number of travel firms are taking part, including Haven, which will organise events in its 35 holiday parks, and First Choice, which is running quizzes in resorts. Other sponsors include Attraction World, Keycamp Holidays and NCL.
Director John McDonald urged people to get involved with their nearest event or to organise their own quiz. He explained that the funds raised from the event will help the 2,000 disadvantaged families the charity aims to help in 2010.
"Save the Pub" All Party Parliamentary Group
The launch event was opened by MP Greg Mulholland, who is also chairman of the all-party parliamentary Save the Pub group. He said: “This is an absolutely fantastic initiative, and I want to pay tribute to the Family Holiday Association for coming up with the idea. I will be urging MPs to go back to pubs in their constituency and ask them to take part.”
Other MPs and Lords who attended the event
Other MPs who turned up included Tony Baldry (Conservative North Oxfordshire), John Mason (SNP Glasgow East), Bill Olner (Labour Nuneaton) and Lembik Opik (LibDem Montgomeryshire). Lord Brookman (Labour) also dropped in to show support.

Tony Baldry said, "I am thrilled that these three pubs in my constituency are taking part in this event. The Family Holiday Association gives children time away with their families that they would not otherwise have had. It is an opportunity for the whole family to concentrate on each other and enjoy themselves.
"I myself am looking forward to taking part in the quiz and would encourage people to do the same to support this great cause and break the world record."
The three pubs in North Oxfordshire taking part in this quiz are:
The Bell Inn, High Street, Adderbury, OX17 3LS; The George and Dragon, Church Lane, Shutford, Banbury, OX15 6PG; The Great Western Arms, Aynho Wharf, Station Road Banbury, OX17 3BP
