Scottish Social Tourism Forum - report now available
Speakers from across Europe promote social tourism in Scottish Parliament
With a quarter of a million families in Scotland wanting but unable to afford a break away from home the issue of social tourism took centre stage in Edinburgh on Wednesday 25 March 2009.
Jointly organised with UNISON Welfare, the Social Tourism Forum heard from Belgian
and Irish speakers and from Scottish trade unionists, politicians and from Visit Scotland executives.
The purpose of the forum, chaired by Alison Rice (right), well-known travel journalist and trustee of the Family Holiday Association, was to both raise the issue of social tourism at the heart of government and to explore the various ways in which low-earning Scottish families might be helped access the benefits a break away from home can deliver.
